Costa Rica is a very small country but does not mean that there is hardly any Costa Rica news. There are various issues that have been making Costa Rica news. Let us take a look at a few important episodes that have made Costa Rica news in the recent past.

Renewal of Egypt-Costa Rica-El Salvador Relationship

The Costa Rica news says that the Egypt’s ties with Costa Rica and El Salvador had drawn to a conclusion in the year 1983 and 1982 respectively owing to the fact that these two countries had shifted their embassies from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem. According to the Costa Rica news, the decisions to revert these moves were taken by Costa Rica and El Salvador on August 16, 2006 and August 26, 2006 respectively. Futbol series- CONCACAF 2006

Unión Fenosa Confident of Triumph

According to the Costa Rica news this week Unión Fenosa, distributor of energy that has been in conflict with the Nicaraguan government has expressed immense faith in its own conquest in early 2007. The INE or Nicaraguan Energy Institute alleged Unión Fenosa of being unable to cater to the needs of above 0.6 million customers. An important Costa Rica News is that the municipality has promised to invest a significant amount of money, (300 million colones in their currency) to the repair of all the roads in the city. The municipality has gone ahead and purchased tones of material, adequate to fill up a four square block at the down town area. This Costa Rica news is heartening, as this down town area is affected by torrential rain, coupled with the highest amount of traffic in the city. A municipality spokesperson also revealed an extra bit of Costa Rica news, stating that they would collect another 100 million colones by way of traffic fines, to install signals in San Francisco de Dos Rios, Hatillos, Barrio Córdoba and La Uruca. The Ministerio de Obras Pública y Transportes (MOPT) has also been busy with painting lanes and patching potholes in highways around San Jose.

Protests on San José Streets

Costa Rica news, on 4th September, was one of concern. The Porteadores decided to take to the streets on Tuesday, September 05, 2006, to coerce the government into continuing to provide transportation under the private contract. They also demand respect for their business. They plan to go about their program by blocking down town traffic as well as major routes of the country. The demand for the regulation or elimination of the Porteo is with the idea to prevent them from operating as a “taxi” and cutting into the business of the actual taxis. The Costa Rica News item has spread concern, as the ministerial solution is to offer the Porteadores a taxi license plate to convert them to legal taxis, which is hardly possible without a due process.
